In the wise words of Ru Paul, “If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen?”

You know what also deserves an amen? Drag queens mixed with bingo. Although at face value they’re entirely different, Totem Books has created an event that puts the two together, creating the perfect concoction of thrill, sass and a whole lotta laughs.

So, if you think Ru Paul’s Drag Race serves up a good time, just wait until you check out this event–a jewel among hosted activities downtown--bringing people together and spreading magic dust over downtown Flint.

Drag Queen Bingo, lasting three hours, offers guests a night out full of laughs, lots of singing, dancing and good company. With periodic performances from the drag queens and an unfiltered comedy show, the event brings a lively atmosphere to the usual peacefulness of Totem Books.

“It’s high energy, everyone’s in a good mood, it’s just a nice crowd,” said Totem Books’ front of house Tyler Bailey. “It’s fun, it’s different and you’re guaranteed a good time. There’s no way you can leave Drag Queen Bingo in a bookstore and not have a fabulous night.”

With the amount of guests ranging from 80 to over 100, there are over 50 prizes to be won.

Besides bingo, Totem also hosts Drag Nights, which consists of a live DJ, performances, comedy and glamour with food and beverages served all evening. Drag Queen Miss Madeline Sharp hosts the event where queens from all over Michigan attend.

While April’s Drag Queen Bingo event has passed (but is speculated to be back later this summer), Totem’s last event of the season will be a Drag Night on May 17 at 8 p.m. Since these events are high in demand, getting tickets ahead of time is the best way to secure a spot. Normally sold on Eventbrite, tickets are $30 online and $35 at the door.

Every ticket includes entrance to the event as well as light refreshments. While parking is available at Totem, the lot fills up quickly so additional parking is accessible across the street at The White Horse Tavern.

If you’re looking to let your hair (or wig) down and enjoy a night out, Totem’s Drag Nights are the perfect place to do so. For a list of upcoming events at Totem, visit their website or Facebook page.
