For students interested in job opportunities or career assistance, the UM-Flint Career Center is hosting its annual career fair. The event will feature potential employers including Ascension, 4-Serv Solutions and Auto-Owners Insurance Company.

The fair will be held in the Riverbank Expo center from 12 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19.

“The goal is for students to have the opportunity to talk with employers,” said Career Center Manager Sara Barton. “They have an opportunity to talk with recruiters that are specifically looking for UM-Flint students or graduates. We want to be that bridge that connects industries and students.”

Barton encourages all students to attend, even if they are unsure of the field they want to go into or have an undeclared major. Before speaking with employers, students will be able to get recommendations for companies to meet with depending on their major and interests. Additionally, recruiters from some graduate colleges will be available.

“Most of the employers that are here, 95 to 100%, have job openings and are actively recruiting,” said Barton. “They do want UM-Flint students. The more students we can get in front of them, the better.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring at least 20 copies of their updated resume and dress in business attire.

“Even if you only have 15 minutes, stop in, meet a couple of employers and start networking,” said Barton. “We usually have about 300 students, but we’d like to have more than that. Employers vary from year to year, we have about 65 to 70 for this one.”

Employers come from all different industries and are looking to fill many different positions. In addition to the large-scale career fair held each February, there are field-specific fairs in the fall, including those geared toward STEM. These events are not open to the public as recruiters are looking specifically for current UM-Flint students.
