Lansing, Michigan – A $93.2 million automotive investment is heading to Macomb County, and the project is designed to do more than add another factory floor. It will bring work now handled overseas into Michigan while creating 102 new jobs in Chesterfield Township.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the expansion of Hansae Mobility USA Manufacturing during her investment mission to South Korea. The company, a U.S. subsidiary of South Korean automotive components manufacturer Hansae Mobility Co., Ltd., plans to operate from a larger, 400,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.

Hansae Mobility produces driveline systems and other vehicle components for major global automakers. The Chesterfield Township expansion will combine increased final assembly operations with machining processes under one roof, giving the company a way to reduce transportation costs and improve the speed and efficiency of its supply chain.
The project also represents a shift of some manufacturing activity to Michigan. Work currently performed by suppliers in Korea is expected to be brought in-house as part of the expansion.
“Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects in next-generation industries like auto manufacturing,” Whitmer said.
“Today’s announcement will create 102 new good-paying jobs and help cement Michigan as the best place to chase the next big idea. Let’s keep working together to show the world that Michigan is the best place to build the future.”
Hansae Mobility USA Manufacturing President Roy (Taein) Kim said the investment builds on nearly a decade of the company operating in the United States. He said combining expanded assembly and machining capabilities will strengthen customer service while creating new career opportunities and establishing a long-term relationship with the region.
The expansion carries a total anticipated capital investment of $93,214,535. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is supporting the project with a $625,000 performance-based Michigan Business Development Program grant. Michigan Works! has also provided a workforce development proposal valued at $702,413, including an estimated $582,000 from the Going Pro Talent Fund.

The announcement came during Whitmer’s September investment mission to South Korea, focused on attracting investment in advanced manufacturing and other industries.
