Flint celebrates neighborhood renewal with grand opening of Avenue Greenspace and Playground this Saturday

Flint, Michigan – As The Avenue Greenspace and Playground opens its gates for the first time, community members are preparing to celebrate a turning point in neighborhood revitalization this Saturday. Families are invited to 1318 Avenue B—nestled between Williams and Wood—from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 10, 2025 to discover a brand-new outdoor meeting place created with enjoyment, fitness, and community in mind.

The celebration kicks off at noon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Neighborhood Implementation Program Manager Mikesha Loring. Guests will be warmly welcomed and then taken on guided tours of the gently rolling lawns comprising the greenspace and the playground’s vibrant buildings. While adults can enjoy the landscaping elements including native plant beds and shaded seating places, children will have the opportunity to jump right into play.

Between swings and slides, guests will discover enough to inspire their imagination. Throughout the afternoon, free take-home craft stations will be available, providing easy crafts perfect for grade-schoolers and preschoolers both. Family-friendly fitness classes will run on the hour for those wishing to sweat; no prior knowledge is required, only a desire to move and enjoy time with others.

Hunger won’t be an issue either. From savory nibbles to sweet delights, a rotating roster of food trucks guarantees a range of tastes. To guarantee families can refuel without grabbing for their wallets, organizers have planned for the first 200 visitors to get a free meal from the trucks.

“We’re thrilled to open this new space that promotes health, creativity, and quality time for families,” said Mikesha Loring, Neighborhood Implementation Program Manager. “This is a celebration of neighborhood revitalization and the power of community.”

Supported by the City of Flint, Premier Property Management, and Communities of Hope, the Avenue Greenspace and Playground project is a collaborative effort. Their joint efforts turned a formerly underutilized block into a lively community center.

Organizers wish families would stay with new acquaintances, swap stories under the trees, and dream of the possibilities this area offers for years to come as the day winds down. The grand opening promises to be a spectacular start to the summer season with its blend of play, creativity, and community spirit—one slide, one craft, and one smile at a time.
