Flint makes autumn yard work a little cheaper with free waste bags for residents until end of November

Flint, Michigan – Flint residents facing piles of autumn leaves have a little extra help this year. The city is offering free yard waste bags through the end of November, giving households a simple way to manage seasonal cleanup without adding another expense.

The program comes as fall yard work begins to pick up across Flint. Residents can receive up to four bags per household each month, with distribution continuing through November 30, 2026, or until supplies run out.

Bags are available at three locations across the city: Flint City Hall, Mays Senior & Community Center and the McKinley Community Center. The multiple pickup sites are intended to give residents convenient options as they prepare yards, sidewalks and other outdoor areas for the changing season.

City officials are encouraging residents to make use of the free bags as leaves begin falling and more yard waste starts collecting around homes and neighborhoods. Keeping up with seasonal debris can help prevent leaves and other waste from building up on sidewalks and around residential properties.

The offer is limited, however. Each household can pick up no more than four bags per month, and availability depends on remaining supplies. Residents who plan to participate may want to collect their bags before the November 30 deadline rather than waiting until the final days of the program.

The initiative is focused on making fall cleanup easier while encouraging residents to take an active role in maintaining their surroundings. Even small cleanup efforts across individual properties can add up when residents throughout a neighborhood take part.

With the program running through late November, Flint households still have several weeks to take advantage of the free resource. The city is asking residents to work together throughout the season to help keep Flint clean, attractive and prepared for the months ahead.
