Gas prices in Michigan rise 12 cents, averaging $3.15 per gallon statewide

Michigan – According to the most recent data from AAA-The Auto Club Group, gasoline prices in Michigan have seen a notable rise this week; the average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel has increased by 12 cents to $3.15. Metro Detroit, where the average price per gallon is $3.18, has quite felt this rise in costs.

The fluctuations in gas prices are intimately related to changes in crude oil prices, which have lately been on an increasing path. “IIf crude oil prices continue to rise, gas prices will likely follow suit,” AAA-The Auto Club Group’s Adrienne Woodland said. These developments affect different parts of the state, hence some feel the pinch more than others.

At $3.18 a gallon, Metro Detroit ranks among the places with the highest gas costs. With an average of $3.17 per gallon Ann Arbor is not far behind; Saginaw and Marquette follow with averages of $3.15 per gallon. Traverse City boasts the lowest average price among more affordable cities—$3.01 per gallon. Other relatively low-priced locations are Benton Harbor at $3.09 and Marquette matching Saginaw at $3.15.

AAA has provided some advice to assist Michigan drivers save money at the pump in reaction to the mounting gasoline prices. Advice is to drive more sensibly since aggressive driving and high speeds significantly affect fuel economy. Additionally encouraged are drivers to clear any extra weight from their vehicles, hence improving fuel economy. Combining errands to cut overall driving time and signing up for savings programs at favored gas stations can also help to somewhat offset increasing gasoline prices.
