Genesee County, Michigan – The Genesee County Board of Commissioners selected Dale K. Weighill to be its new chair after a vote of 6 to 3 at the board’s annual organizational meeting on Wednesday, January 6.
The appointment sets the direction for the board’s leadership for the next year as it starts to transition into a new term of governance.
County Clerk-Register Domonique Clemons ran the vote, and the election of the chair and vice chair was the first item on the agenda. Along with Weighill’s appointment, the commissioners chose Gary Goetzinger from District 3 to be vice chair. This finished the board’s leadership team for the coming year.
As he takes on this new responsibility, Weighill, a Democrat who used to be in charge of the Government Operations Committee, highlighted how important it is for both parties to work together.
He said he supported keeping the leadership structure balanced and was certain he could work closely with Goetzinger to steer the board’s work.
The new chair takes over for District 1 Commissioner Delrico J. Loyd, who led the board for a year. Loyd used the moment to thank the other commissioners and county staff, praising their professionalism and dedication to the people of the county.
He said that the county’s achievement was due to the hard work of staff in all departments and thanked them for their dedication throughout his time in office.
“I wanted to thank everyone for their professionalism, and the excellence they brought to work every day,” Loyd said.
“The progress of this county is built on their labor, their consistency and their commitment to the residents of Genesee County. I am deeply appreciative of that.”

Weighill also praised Loyd’s leadership, saying that they both have experience serving on the Genesee County Commission and the Flint City Council. He praised Loyd for his help over the previous year and said kind things about working together in public service again.
Weighill, who lives in Flint Township, has decades of experience in public and civic leadership. He has worked as the president and CEO of Resource Genesee, vice president of the Flint City Council for three years, and held key leadership positions at Mott Community College. He has also been a leader in charitable organizations all across the county and has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in political science.
Weighill is the representative for Genesee County’s 8th District. This district comprises Clayton Township, the City of Flushing, Flushing Township, the City of Swartz Creek, and part of Flint Township.
The board also chose the leaders of the committees for 2026. They chose Dr. Beverly Brown to lead Community and Economic Development, Martin Cousineau to lead Finance, Delrico J. Loyd to lead Government Operations, Charles Winfrey to lead Human Services, and Brian K. Flewelling to lead Public Works.
