Flint, Michigan – Genesee County authorities are asking local residents and workers to come forward because four positions on the county’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission are available. The Genesee County Board of Commissioners said there were openings and asked appropriate individuals to apply by midnight on March 21.
The commission gives advice to the Board of Commissioners. Its membership includes county commissioners, Genesee County employees, and residents. They look at policies, practices, and priorities through the perspective of fairness and inclusion, giving advice that is aimed to build trust and opportunity in the whole community.
There are four open positions, but only one is for a Genesee County employee. The other three are for county residents. There is a three-year term for each appointment, starting on June 1, 2026, and ending on May 31, 2029.
The commission’s main goals are to raise awareness of social injustice and its effects, as well as to make sure that everyone in the county is treated equally. Members focus on a few important topics, such as health equity, board policies and budget goals, hiring and training county workers, initiatives to diversify, public safety, and how the county buys things.
The main purpose is to make Genesee County look like a friendly place and give people the tools they need to deal with social justice issues in a positive way.
Applicants must meet certain requirements to be eligible. To be eligible, people must be U.S. citizens, registered voters, and have lived in Genesee County for at least a year. Candidates are not eligible if they have been convicted of crimes involving deceit, fraud, or dishonesty, or if they are delinquent on fines, fees, or taxes owed to the county.
People who are interested can fill out the county’s online form to apply. Applicants who do not have internet access may mail their materials to the Board of Commissioners’ office at 324 S. Saginaw St., 10th Floor, Flint, MI 48502.
Along with a letter of interest and a résumé, applicants must answer several questions about why they want to serve, what relevant experience they have, how they can add value, any possible limitations on their service, their views on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and their understanding of the Board’s values and priorities.
County leaders say they are excited to look over applications and select individuals who are ready to help Genesee County move toward a fairer future.
