City of Flint invites young residents to attend gun violence summit on June 13 and share their voice on neighborhood safety

Flint, Michigan – Flint’s young residents will have a chance this weekend to speak directly about one of the hardest issues facing their neighborhoods: gun violence, safety and what comes next.

The City of Flint is inviting youth to take part in the Gun Violence Youth Summit on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, located at 1939 Howard Ave. in Flint. Registration is required by email at [email protected].

The summit is being shaped as a youth-led event, with the goal of making room for open conversations, practical ideas and community action. Rather than treating young people only as listeners, the event is designed to put them in the center of the discussion. Organizers want participants to talk honestly about the issues they see, the fears they carry, and the changes they believe can make Flint safer.

During the four-hour gathering, attendees will take part in interactive workshops and connect with peers, mentors and community partners. The event will focus on real conversations about real issues, while also offering tools that can help young people become leaders for positive change. The summit will also highlight youth-driven solutions, leadership development and action steps aimed at creating safer neighborhoods.

The setting is meant to be both serious and supportive. Gun violence affects families, schools, streets and futures, and the summit gives young people a place to discuss those realities without being pushed to the sidelines. It also gives them access to resources and people who can help turn concern into action.

Lunch will be provided during the event. Each attendee will also receive a $50 gift card.

The City of Flint’s invitation comes with a clear message: young voices matter in the work of building safer communities. The summit is not only about talking through the problem, but also about helping young residents see themselves as part of the solution.
