Thomas the Tank Engine rolls into Flint for two weekends of family train fun

Flint, Michigan – For two weekends in August, Genesee County will sound a little more like the Island of Sodor. The whistles, the wheels and the wide-eyed children are coming with it.

Thomas the Tank Engine is rolling into Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad in Flint for Day Out With Thomas, a family event built around one of the most familiar blue engines in children’s entertainment.

The event is scheduled for August 14–16 and August 21–23, giving families six days to climb aboard, take photos and turn a summer outing into a train-filled memory.

The biggest draw is the chance to ride a real train pulled by Thomas. For young fans, that is not a small thing. It turns the character from a screen or book into something they can see, hear and board. For parents and grandparents, the event offers a full day of activities rather than just a quick ride.

Organizers say guests can expect live entertainment, games and family activities during the event. The setup is designed for children, but Crossroads Village also gives adults something to enjoy: a historic setting where old trades, vintage buildings and the Huckleberry Railroad already make the place feel like a step back in time.

This year’s visit carries extra weight for Michigan families. According to the event announcement, Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad will host the only Day Out With Thomas event in Michigan this year. That means families from outside Genesee County may also be looking at Flint as the main stop for Thomas-themed fun in the state.

Crossroads Village, located at 6140 Bray Road in Flint, is already in its summer season, which runs from May 23 through September 7. During that period, the village is open Thursdays through Sundays and holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can ride the Huckleberry Railroad, watch performances at the Colwell Opera House and see skilled artisans demonstrate traditional trades.

With Thomas coming for only two weekends, tickets are expected to move quickly. Families planning to attend can reserve tickets through the event ticket site at https://www.ticketwebdowt.com/.

For children who know Thomas by name, the event is about meeting a favorite character. For families, it is a chance to slow down, board a train together and make one of those summer memories that lasts longer than the ride.
