Flint to host free Estate Planning Fair to help residents protect property, finances and family assets

Flint, Michigan – For many families, planning for the future is easy to postpone. Wills, property, insurance and final arrangements can feel like issues for another day, until suddenly they are not.

Flint residents will have a chance to tackle some of those questions in one place next week, when the city hosts a free Estate Planning Fair at the Mays Senior & Community Center.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will bring together information and resources aimed at helping residents protect their property, financial interests and families while making important decisions about the future.

Attorney Trachelle Young will serve as the featured presenter. Her presentation will focus on key parts of estate planning, including steps residents can take to document their wishes and make preparations easier for loved ones.

“Estate planning is about more than preparing documents; it is about protecting what you have worked for and making sure your family has a clear path forward,” Mayor Sheldon A. Neeley said.

“We want Flint residents to have access to trusted information and resources that empower them to make informed decisions for themselves and future generations.”

The fair will extend beyond traditional estate planning. Residents will also be able to learn about property taxes, life insurance, health insurance, funeral and final-arrangement planning, tax assistance and ways to protect family assets.

That broader approach is intended to give attendees a clearer picture of how different financial and personal decisions can fit together. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and collect information that may help them determine what steps make sense for their own circumstances.

City officials say the event is part of Flint’s ongoing effort to connect residents with resources that support financial stability and long-term family and community well-being.

The Estate Planning Fair is free to attend and will be held at the Mays Senior & Community Center from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on August 26.

For residents who have been putting off conversations about property, insurance, taxes or what happens to family assets in the future, the fair offers an opportunity to begin gathering information now rather than leaving those decisions for later.
