Genesee County, Michigan – For veterans, finding help can sometimes mean sorting through a maze of agencies, programs and benefit systems. Genesee County is taking a new step aimed at making that search easier for people within its own workforce.
The county has officially become a Michigan Veteran Connector, joining a statewide effort designed to help veterans, service members and military families reach the resources they have earned.
The designation expands Genesee County’s role beyond simply recognizing military service. Through the initiative, the county will help employees and their families who have served in the military connect with benefits, support programs and other resources available through federal, state and local agencies.

The Michigan Veteran Connector program is administered by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. Organizations participating in the program receive specialized training focused on identifying veterans and guiding them toward services that may be available because of their military service.
That training is an important part of the program. Veterans and their families may qualify for assistance through several different levels of government, and knowing where to begin can be difficult. A trained Veteran Connector can serve as a starting point, helping people identify available resources and directing them toward the appropriate agencies or programs.
For Genesee County, the new designation adds another layer to its efforts to support employees with military connections. It also creates a more direct pathway for veterans and their families who may not know what benefits exist or which organization handles a particular need.
The county said becoming a Veteran Connector strengthens its commitment to veterans, active service members and military families throughout the organization.

It also places Genesee County alongside other organizations across Michigan participating in the same statewide network. The broader goal is straightforward: make it easier for veterans to find assistance without having to navigate the system entirely on their own.
For employees who have served, or whose families have military backgrounds, the designation could make the county workplace an additional place to begin looking for information and support.
By joining the Michigan Veteran Connector program, Genesee County is helping close the distance between veterans and the services already available to them — ensuring that knowing where to turn becomes one less obstacle.
