Flint, Michigan – A routine health check can sometimes catch a problem before it becomes a much bigger one. In Flint, residents will have a chance to handle several of those preventive steps in a single visit this September.
From cancer screenings to nutrition lessons and stress-relieving activities, the city’s upcoming Early Detection Day is designed to make basic health resources easier to reach, and there is no cost to attend.
The free Community Health & Wellness Event will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at McKinley Community Center, 249 Peer Ave. in Flint. The event is open to the entire community.
Healthcare providers and community organizations will come together throughout the day, offering residents screenings, education and practical information focused on prevention and healthier living.
“Early detection and access to reliable health information can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents,” Flint Mayor Sheldon A. Neeley said.
“By bringing these services directly into our community, we are helping residents take proactive steps to protect their health and the health of their families.”
One of the main services available will be mobile mammography screenings provided through Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and the Anthony L. Soave Family Mobile Mammography Screening Center. Walk-ins will be accepted, making the screening available even for residents who do not schedule ahead.
Those who prefer to reserve a mammography appointment can call 313-647-3303.
The day will also cover several other areas of preventive care. Residents can receive vaccinations and learn about HPV and cervical cancer, while additional resources will focus on men’s health, breast health navigation and general prevention education.

The event is not limited to screenings. Organizers are also including chair yoga and meditation, along with nutrition lessons and snacks, giving visitors opportunities to learn about everyday habits that can support their overall wellness.
By placing medical services, health education and wellness activities under one roof, Early Detection Day is intended to give Flint residents a convenient opportunity to check in on their health and learn about resources available to them.
