Flint closes 12th Street and Van Slyke Road rail crossing after track damage

Flint, Michigan – Residents and commuters in Flint are being told to prepare ahead since an important road has been closed due to damage to a train crossing. City officials confirmed that the crossing at 12th Street and Van Slyke Road is closed right now because of problems with the train tracks, which is causing traffic problems in the region.

The closure was put in place after the damage was identified and determined to pose a safety concern. Canadian National owns and runs the railroad, and they are in charge of fixing it. The business said that replacement parts to fix the broken part of the track have already been ordered.

But officials say the repairs won’t be done right away. Canadian National has said that work will probably continue for a few days. This means that the crossing will stay closed until the materials needed for the repairs arrive and the work is done. No exact reopening date has been announced.

Drivers are advised to use different routes and give themselves more time to get to their destinations, especially during rush hour. The City of Flint is encouraging drivers to pay special attention to diversion signs and follow traffic management measures that have been put in place to keep cars moving safely around the area that is affected.

City officials also stressed how important it is to stay away from the restricted crossing completely, saying that trying to get around barricades can be dangerous. As soon as further information comes in and a date for reopening is set, updates will be made.

In the meanwhile, people who use the 12th Street and Van Slyke Road crossing are asked to be on the lookout for changes and to be patient as crews fix the tracks and reopen the road.
