Flint residents invited to free S.T.R.O.N.G. Summit focused on trauma recovery, equity, and community building

Flint, Michigan – You may now sign up for the Flint ReCAST S.T.R.O.N.G. Summit, one of the most exciting community events of the summer in Genesee County. The event will take place on Friday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at New Standard Academy, which is at 2040 W. Carpenter Road in Flint. Registration is necessary and spots are limited, even though the event is free.

The S.T.R.O.N.G. Summit, which is part of Flint’s ReCAST effort (short for Resiliency in Communities After Stress and Trauma), invites people from the area together to help them heal, come together, and thrive. The name of the summit, “Supporting Togetherness, Resiliency, Opportunity, Networking, and Growth,” says what it is all about. It promises to have a lot of keynote speeches, breakout sessions, hands-on workshops, and access to local resources.

The summit is open to everyone who lives in Genesee County. Its goal is to establish a place where people and families may connect, share their stories, and become stronger in the face of persistent problems. The organizers stress that the day’s programs will cover a wide range of important community issues, such as behavioral health, racial fairness, youth development, and violence prevention.

Flint ReCAST is a five-year project financed by a grant that helps high-risk adolescents and families while restoring trust in the community and promoting fairness. Its activities are meant to make Flint’s social fabric stronger by making secure, welcoming places and giving a voice to people who don’t typically get one.

After the summit, people are invited to an optional cultural trip to the Heart of Worship Dance Studio to see Black Nights, Brown Hope. This performance emphasizes concepts of identity and connection via movement, which is very similar to the summit’s focus on community healing and resilience. People who want to see the performance need to sign up separately.

Elga Credit Union, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, United Way of Genesee County, Genesee Health System, Molina Healthcare, and Ashley Capital are just a few of the local and regional sponsors who helped make the event possible.

The S.T.R.O.N.G. Summit is an excellent opportunity for people in Genesee County to come together, share, learn, and move ahead. It has a lot of support from the community and focuses on healing through action.
