Flint shelter invites community to meet adoptable dogs during special low cost event this weekend

Flint, Michigan – As winter fades and the promise of spring settles in, a new opportunity is opening for residents to welcome companionship into their lives. Genesee County Animal Care is preparing to host a special adoption event designed to connect people with pets ready for a fresh start.

Set for Saturday, March 28, the event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering visitors a chance to meet a variety of dogs currently in the shelter’s care. Among them are dogs like Sandy and Wren, each waiting for a place to call home. The event carries a simple message, sometimes the perfect companion is just one visit away.

To make adoption more accessible, organizers are offering a reduced adoption rate for the day. Dogs can be adopted for $20, with an additional $10 license fee required for Genesee County residents. The reduced cost aims to encourage more families to consider adoption and help more animals leave the shelter behind for good.

The gathering will take place at the Genesee County Animal Care facility located at 4351 W. Pasadena Avenue in Flint. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to introduce the dogs, answer questions, and guide visitors through the adoption process. The goal is not just to place animals, but to help create lasting matches between pets and their future owners.

While the event focuses on dogs, organizers note that cats and kittens will not be included in this particular adoption day. Even so, the spotlight remains firmly on giving these dogs a second chance and helping them transition from shelter life to a stable home environment.

With warmer days arriving, the timing aligns with a season often associated with renewal and new beginnings. For many of the animals waiting at the shelter, this event could mark the turning point in their story.

Community members are encouraged to stop by, spend time with the animals, and consider opening their homes. For those ready to make the commitment, the day offers more than just an adoption, it offers the start of a lasting bond.
