Lansing, Michigan – A 50-year-old man from Bronson is facing criminal charges after authorities say he made a threatening statement during a phone call to the Michigan State Capitol. Gabriel Hetrick appeared for a probable cause conference following his earlier arraignment on February 5 in Lansing’s 54-A District Court, according to an announcement from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
Prosecutors allege that on September 17, 2025, Hetrick contacted the Capitol to ask about tour availability. During the conversation, he is accused of stating that he was “going to start hunting republicans I think.” The remark led to charges of making a terroristic threat and malicious use of a telecommunications service.
State officials emphasized the seriousness of threats directed at elected leaders and government institutions.
“Threats against elected officials are serious crimes that can have severe consequences,” said Attorney General Nessel. “Public officials must be able to carry out their roles without fear, and my office will continue to hold those who threaten to harm others accountable.”
