Fall series of community meetings brings Genesee County residents face-to-face with local leaders

Genesee County, Michigan – Sen. John Cherry (D-Flint) and several county commissioners will start a new series of community talks this fall. Genesee County residents will be able to meet with their elected representatives in person. The meetings, which will go from October to December, are meant to improve communication between local officials and the people they serve.

The hour-long forums will take place in community centers across the 27th Senate District. Residents will be able to ask questions, voice their concerns, and get updates on programs offered by both state and county departments. Dr. Beverly Brown, James Avery, Charles Winfrey, Dale Weighill, and Delrico Loyd will be with Sen. Cherry.

Cherry noted that the purpose of these meetings is to make sure that people in the area feel supported and know about the services that are accessible to them.

“Whether constituents need assistance navigating health care, food, or unemployment benefits, or are seeking other resources, we want them to know that they’re not alone — our offices are here to help,” he said.

“I’m thrilled to be collaborating with my county colleagues on this fall conversation series to not only ensure our neighbors are aware of what services are available to them, but to also hear firsthand about any issues or concerns they want to address.”

Commissioner Dr. Beverly Brown emphasized that the sessions are not only informative but also interactive.

“These sessions are about creating real connections, offering the chance for citizens to directly engage with decision-makers at the local and state level,” said Dr. Beverly Brown, District 4 Commissioner. “It’s an opportunity not only to provide information about vital services, but also to listen and learn from the people we serve. This is how we can offer transparent, more responsive government for the benefit of all our residents.”

The conversation series began on Monday, October 27, with Dr. Brown at the Mundy Senior & Community Enrichment Center in Flint. On November 10, there will be a meeting with Commissioner James Avery in Grand Blanc. On November 17, there will be a meeting with Commissioner Charles Winfrey at the McCree Theater in Flint. On November 21, there will be a meeting with Commissioner Dale Weighill in Swartz Creek. Finally, on December 5, there will be a meeting with Commissioner Delrico Loyd at the Genesee County Administration Building.

The public is welcome to all of the events, which will last around an hour. Residents are encouraged to go to any session that works for them, give feedback, and find out more about the services that are available in their state and county.
