City of Flint encourages residents to check waste maps, schedules and closures during holiday period

Flint, Michigan – As Flint celebrates Christmas and New Year’s, residents should get ready for changes in how the city runs and how trash is picked up. City officials have announced temporary closures and service adjustments to ensure essential operations continue while administrative offices observe the holidays.

On Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, Flint City Hall will be closed to the public for the Christmas holiday. The building will close again on Wednesday, December 31, and Thursday, January 1, to celebrate the New Year. During certain times, City Hall will not be open for in-person services. Residents are encouraged to look into other ways to pay and send mail.

The Flint Customer Service Center on Clio Road will have the same hours as the holiday. The facility will be closed on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1, but it will be open during regular business hours on all other days. People who need help should organize visits outside of these dates to prevent delays.

The red drop box in front of City Hall will be open during the holidays to help people keep getting to important services. People who live in the area can use the drop box to send in payments for their water bills, property taxes, and other official letters. Also, important city services will keep running without any problems. The police and fire agencies, the water service center, and the wastewater treatment facility will all be open and working all day, every day.

Holiday observances will also change how trash is picked up from homes. On Christmas Day, December 25, and New Year’s Day, January 1, trash pickup will be one day late. Residents should check the city’s waste collection map to find out when their pickups will be on the new dates for their service zones. The regular routine for picking up trash will start again on January 5.

After the holidays, Priority Waste will also start collecting Christmas trees on a seasonal basis. During the three weeks after Christmas, people can bring in natural Christmas trees that don’t have any lights, ornaments, or other decorations on them. All things should be put at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on the days that garbage is picked up, just like with regular garbage pickup. The garbage truck comes to pick up trash from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

People who live in the area and have questions or issues about trash collection or missed pickups can call Priority Waste at (810) 410-1134. You may get more information on Flint’s sanitation services on the city’s official website.
