Flint, Michigan – Flint residents are reminded to use the city’s curbside brush and compost collection services beginning this Tuesday, April 1, 2025, following recent storms that left downed trees and brush in their path. This program is part of the city’s continuous work to help with post-storm cleanup and to preserve the beauty and safety of the city.
Running concurrently with residents’ usual garbage collection schedule, the yard waste pickup service will be offered until November 30, 2025. Yard waste has to be thrown away in paper compost bags or open containers no more than 32 gallons or 50 pounds weight. Your yard waste will be collected if you put these containers at the curb by 7 a.m. on the specified pickup day, at least 10 feet away from ordinary trash bins.
Grass clippings, leaves, shrubs, and brush trimmings are among the accepted items for this collection service. Residents, meanwhile, should make sure brush trimmings are no longer than 4 feet and not more than 6 inches in diameter. This will help to avoid damage to collecting equipment and enable easier handling.
Unacceptable in the yard waste collection are sod, pet waste, dirt, rocks, trash, root balls, huge branches, and any plastic products. Improper disposal of these items could compromise the efficiency of the composting process and create problems for waste management.
