Detroit, Michigan – Next year, Wayne State University and Detroit Public Television will host a journalism conference on their main campus in Detroit.

Montclair State University’s Center for Cooperative Media is organizing the event, which will take place on May 9-10, 2024, and will attract journalists from all over the country.

“Journalism and the press are central to a democracy,” says Hasan Elahi, dean of Wayne State’s College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. “We at Wayne State have always been keenly aware and attune to this, as the university has graduated so many professionals in the field of journalism in Detroit and beyond.”

Detroit was chosen by the Montclair Center as the location for the event, and they partnered with Detroit Public Television (DPTV) for hosting, according to DPTV’s president and CEO, Rich Homberg.

Homberg explains that they involved Wayne State University due to its top-notch journalism program, its convenient location, and its willingness to work together.

The summit is planned to be a dynamic and interactive event, filled with opportunities for learning and exchanging ideas. The schedule for both days is packed, so attendees are advised to be well-prepared.

Homberg emphasizes the importance of collaboration in journalism, especially in the current context of smaller newsrooms and budgets. He believes that working together, sharing resources, and uniting platforms are key to producing impactful journalism.

“We believe the upcoming Collaborative Journalism Summit is another important step in this direction as journalists share ideas, learn from one another, and form new connections and partnerships.”
