The community gathers on January 20 to celebrate mentorship and Dr. King’s legacy, event hosted by BBBS Flint

Flint, Michigan – The Flint community will get together on January 20th to honor the ongoing influence of mentoring at the 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County are hosting this event to remember the legacy of Dr. King through the creation of an inspiring morning full of community involvement and recognition of the importance of mentoring.

The breakfast, which is set to take place at St. Michael’s Conference Center in Downtown Flint, will begin at 9:00 a.m.; doors opening for registration at 8:30 a.m., Attracting over a hundred people annually, including mentors, mentees, community leaders, and committed volunteers, this annual celebration has evolved to a major component of National Mentoring Month.

James Avery, a revered Genesee County Commissioner and the CEO of Berston Field House, will be the Master of Ceremony this year. A keynote speech by Flint native Mama Sōl, a renowned artist and passionate community activist, will be the high point of the event. Mama Sōl is expected to speak to the ideas of leadership and service that Dr. King advocated since she is well-known for her potent performances and deep-rooted activism.

Apart from honoring the vision of Dr. King, the event honors the turning points of the mentoring journey like “I’m a Mentor Day” and “Thank Your Mentor Day.” These  highlight the important part mentorship plays in developing young people’s potential and in strengthening links in the society.

Participants will get the chance to learn about the achievements of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program as well as the transforming relationships created between “Bigs” and “Littles.” This is an opportunity for the community to reaffirm its determination to raise the next generation by arming them with encouraging relationships and good role models.

Tickets for the inspiration-filled morning are priced at $20 and can be purchased from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint’s event page.
