Flint, Michigan – Ambitiously trying to increase local entrepreneurship, the City of Flint has published a comprehensive suite of initiatives aimed at small businesses and entrepreneurs around Flint and the larger Tri-County area in cooperation with Best Practices Consulting Services (BPCS). These initiatives are crafted to stimulate economic growth, offer vital resources, and cater to the varied needs of the local business community.
Among the flagship projects, the Flint Small Business Initiative (FSBI) primarily supports Flint citizens wishing to launch or grow their small enterprises. By giving them required tools and direction, the FSBI is eager to assist entrepreneurs, particularly those from underprivileged areas. Applicants must live in Flint, have their company registered inside the city, and satisfy certain income requirements depending on the 2024 IRS Income Guidelines to qualify. Prospective participants must fill out an FSBI Intake Form; further information can be found on the FSBI Facebook page.
Running alongside the FSBI, Flint’s plan to assist its entrepreneurial sector includes the MicroFlint Program, formerly known as Greater Business Help. This initiative reaches out to Flint residents as well as those in adjacent communities including Burton, Flint Township, Beecher, Mt. Morris, and potentially additional nearby locations subject to review.
The MicroFlint Program provides expertise in business planning and support via the loan application procedure. To participate in the MicroFlint initiative, interested parties must fill out an Onboarding Survey and MicroFlint Intake Form.
Another creative initiative is BuyFlint, which aims to increase the awareness and reach of local companies. BuyFlint promotes Flint-based companies to be supported by both people and institutions, hence helping to create a closer-knit economic environment. Eligibility for this program depends on the company’s registration and operation inside the City of Flint, hence emphasizing current sales of goods or services. Completing the BuyFlint Supplier Registration form will allow companies to participate in this program.
