Flint, Michigan – The City of Flint, along with Attorney Trachelle C. Young, President of the Mallory, VanDyne & Scott (MVS) Bar Association, invites Flint citizens to a unique event highlighting estate planning basics. From 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the free workshop on wills and end-of-life planning will take place in the new City of Flint Service Center on Thursday, October 3.
Attendees of this educational session will learn about the need of selecting beneficiaries and a personal representative, creating powers of attorney, and assigning guardians for youngsters. The workshop will also go over important papers to keep safe, burial decisions, and the differences between a will and a living trust.
Without a suitable estate plan, families may find themselves dealing the complex probate system either without access to insurance benefits for burial expenditures or in front of custody conflicts over youngsters.
“Without an estate plan, and specifically a will, the laws will determine what happens to your possessions and the courts will decide who gets custody of your minors,” Young said in a news release sent to us by the City of Flint. “These are decisions every adult and parent should make for themselves.”
This initiative is a part of Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s ongoing efforts to enhance financial literacy among Flint residents and promote the accumulation of generational wealth.
“Estate planning is an important piece of financial literacy and can help Flint families achieve the goal of building generational wealth. This opportunity will help Flint residents secure their legacy for their children, grandchildren and generations to come,” stated Mayor Neeley.

The program emphasizes the need of being proactive about financial and estate planning to avoid future legal issues and financial hardship for loved ones. Following the presentation, a Q&A session will allow guests to address their issues and get direction on starting their own estate planning.

Set to take place in front of Hallwood Plaza at 4813 Clio Rd., the event seeks to provide locals the tools they need to effectively manage and protect their resources. Although the event is meant purely for educational reasons and does not create an attorney-client relationship or offer particular legal advice, it’s a great chance for residents to get basic understanding on safeguarding their family’s future.
