Motor City Makeover 2025 brings beauty, trees, and thousands of flowers to Detroit neighborhoods

Detroit, Michigan – Working with business and community partners, the City of Detroit has started an ambitious recruitment campaign for the 2025 edition of the Motor City Makeover, an annual city-wide initiative to clean and beautify its neighborhoods. Part of its increased efforts this year, the project is launching tool libraries and mini murals, encouraging more people to help build a cleaner, more colorful cityscape.

Tool libraries’ creation is at the core of this year’s campaign, revealed at the Bailey Park Neighborhood Development Corporation. These hubs will give free access to tools required for beautification and community clean-up activities. Located at 2617 Jos. Campau, near East Vernor Street, the Bailey Park library, along with two others at E. Warren and Premier Group Associates, will empower residents and organizations registered with the City to improve their neighborhoods.

The project additionally introduces a little mural project in partnership with the City Walls Program, so enhancing the cleanup with artistic touch. More than 30 artists have created works reflecting the topic of the project, “Keep Detroit Clean.” Displayed in prominent citywide areas, these pieces will promote community involvement and pride. Residents will be able to vote on the mural designs, so guaranteeing that the chosen artwork speaks to the identity of every neighborhood.

The Motor City Makeover of this year is as much about beautification as it is about cleanup. Participants will get 500 trees and 90,000 flowers from the City, plus many seed packets from the Office of Urban Agriculture. These initiatives are meant to not only clean up the city but also to green and provide color into Detroit’s landscape.
